Our Story

Blue Hydrangea Skincare

I've always believed that the body knows how to take care of itself, as long as you give it what it needs.

That belief became personal for me in my early thirties, when I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. This was before the internet, so I did what people did back then.

I went to the library.

I researched, read everything I could find, and made a decision. I wasn't going to manage this with medication. I wasn't going to accept a future defined by what I couldn't do. I was going to approach it the way I had always approached my health, holistically, with intention, and with a lot of patience.

That meant being thoughtful about everything. How I ate, how I moved, what I put on and in my body. It was a whole-life approach, and it worked. Today I am healthy and active. Not because it was easy, but because I was willing to do the research and trust the process.

Along the way, I spent time as a sales consultant for a natural skincare company. That chapter taught me a lot about what actually goes into clean skincare, which ingredients matter, which ones don't, and which ones have no business being on your skin in the first place. I eventually moved on from the company, but I took everything I learned with me.

A few years ago, I started reading about frankincense resin and became fascinated by it. I looked at the natural skincare products already on the market, read through their ingredient lists, and thought, I could probably make that at home. So I did. I pulled from years of research, my knowledge of clean ingredients, and a lot of trial and error, and what came out of it was my first product: the Soothing Face Serum. I made it for myself, with no intention of sharing it beyond my own bathroom shelf.

But then I let my daughter try it.

The extrovert of the family, she loved it and told her friends about it. Then she came back to me and said, "Hey, I have some orders for you."

That was the beginning. More people started asking me about their own skin challenges. More doors opened, an opportunity for a booth at a local market, more requests, more word of mouth. I'm a homebody and an introvert, and running a business was never the plan. But I believe that when doors keep opening, you trust that and you walk through them, even when it's a little scary.

Since then, I've built a full five-step skincare line and a growing collection of body and bath products, all clean, all made with intention, and all rooted in the same philosophy I've carried my whole life. The name Blue Hydrangea is a nod to my daughter, whose favorite flower now lives on every label. It felt right. She started this whole thing, after all.

This is still a small, handmade business. Every product is carefully formulated and made in small batches in my own kitchen by my own hands. I'm still a little floored by how people have responded. But I keep going, because the doors keep opening, and because helping people feel good in their skin is something worth showing up for.

Warmly,

Denise
